Martha Flores
The Immensity of our Essence: Paintings & Poetry
Martha is a local artist whose work is a favorite among collectors!
Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Martha Flores immigrated to the California in 1962 where she’d enroll at California State University and receive both a Masters in Fine Arts and a Masters in Psychology. Flores formerly published two books of poetry in Spanish, Piel de Barro and Cuentos en Rima. This publication marks her first full publication in English and the first displaying her poetry alongside her paintings. This is Martha’s journey from the 80’s forward, through divorce and remarriage, from blind patriotism to disillusionment. Aside from many accomplishments in the arts spanning a variety of mediums, Flores worked as a mental health counselor for 30 years. Flores has called Wenatchee, Washington her home since Dec. of 1992, where she displays and teaches art across the valley.
There is a lot to Martha Flores. “I am an artist, educator and retired therapist," Flores says, introducing herself. Flores is also a poet, a passionate performer and a whole-hearted believer in art as therapy.
“Doing my own art is my therapy. It helps me a great deal to deal with the many things that are going on in the world," She says. “For example, I was born in Guatemala and grew up in El Salvador. The situation in those places is worrisome. All these events influence my emotions and my creativity and it’s filtered into my art work.”
Martha has a new book of Poetry and Art out, available through Amazon: The Immensity of our Essence: Paintings & Poetry
