Wenatchee Watercolor Society “Meet the Artist”

Nicki Isaacson

A Wenatchee watercolorist, Nicki began pursuing her passion for art 20 years ago after her three children had grown. Now, having retired from a nursing career of more than 30 years, she is enjoying uninterrupted time with her brushes, capturing the captivating details of nature on paper.

Nicki’s work these days focuses mostly on flowers, fruits, vegetables and birds.

“I’m a detail person,” she says. She loves capturing “things you don’t see as you rush through your day: the center of a flower, the curve of a petal, the lines in a leaf, or how light glances off an apple or cherry.”

“Watercolor is the perfect medium,” Nicki says. “It’s transparent. It allows you to layer paint without losing the light that shines through the pigments, giving the painting depth of color.”

Nicki, whose grandmother was an artist, shares her passion for art with her brother, John Gregor, an accomplished painter in Beaufort, S.C. The two talk frequently, texting photos of work in progress for suggestions and moral support. When she isn’t painting, Nicki spends time with her family: 11 grandchildren!

Nicki is a member of the Wenatchee Watercolor Society and the Two Rivers Art Gallery, where she has served on the board. She was a featured artist in 2014, 2017 and October 2023. For 2024, Nicki was chosen as the Print Artist for the annual Apple Blossom Festival. One of her paintings was also chosen for the 2016 Pybus Market poster, and in January 2023, she was featured artist at Pybus Market Art Alley.

Donna Roberts
I am recently retired after working over 30 years in healthcare.  I grew up in Wyoming and moved to Washington in 2004 and to Wenatchee in 2018.

When I joined the Wenatchee Watercolor Society I had very little painting experience.  I have found painting with these artists has brought me much joy, inspiration and one of the highlights of my week.  The artists have been very helpful in giving me tips and guidance in my artwork.  My love of nature and wildlife is often my inspiration in my work.  I am looking forward to painting and learning from these artists for many more years.
